Allan Brooks Nature Centre will open Saturday with an open house and Easter scavenger hunt.

Starting at 11 a.m.,  there will be family activities, including the drop-in Easter scavenger hunt, face painting and trail walk-abouts.

At 1 p.m., there will be a welcome and prayer from a First Nations elder, followed by a performance of the Turtle Circle First Nations Drummers.

There will be door prizes, cake and the Girl Guides will be on hand to sell cookies.

Robert Bateman’s Get to Know contest will be launched on site.

The Get to Know program is all about inspiring children to get outdoors and connect with their neighbours of other species. The contest, which runs from May 1 to Nov. 1, invites Canadian residents 19 and under to get outside and create original works of art, writing, photography, videography and music inspired by nature.

The centre is located at 250 Allan Brooks Way, just above the army camp off Mission Road.

Open hours for the season are Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
