The price of the button he wasn’t wearing was considerably less than the fine Cameron Wong had to pay for not wearing the button.
Vernon Winter Carnival cops were called to the offices of Nixon Wenger Lawyers Wednesday morning to arrest articling student Wong, who was not wearing a Vernon Winter Carnival button, a 51-year tradition within the city during the annual February event.
Wong was arrested after an anonymous phone call was made to the Winter Carnival office advising them that the student was not sporting the traditional Winter Carnival button.
“Carnival is an incredible event in our community and it offers the opportunity for staff to have a little fun with one another,” said Nixon Wenger managing partner Doug Lemiski.
Wong, who has never experienced a Vernon Winter Carnival, was successful in raising $317 for his release.
“The money collected is donated to the Winter Carnival Society, and this amount is a record for 2011,” said Vernon Winter Carnival chairperson Dave Fletcher.
“We are delighted when we receive such amazing support from our business community.”
