Cattle industry rounds up speakers

North Okanagan ranchers will be able to learn about marketing strategies in the cattle industry.

The North Okanagan Livestock Association and the Ministry of Agriculture will hold a seminar at the Best Western Vernon Lodge March 23 at 7 p.m.

“The seminar will focus on the awareness of marketing strategies in the cattle industry today,” said Cheryl Altwasser, with NOLA.

“There will be two national level speakers that are in the forefront of cattle market projection – Anne Dunford and Aaron Canart.”

Dunford is the general manager and marketing specialist for Gateway Livestock Exchange in Taber, Alta.

Canart is the director of supply chain management, where he is responsible for procuring feeder cattle and managing their risk for Agri Beef Company feedlots in the northwest.

In addition, Kevin Boon, the general manager of the B.C. Cattlemen’s Association, will be at the seminar to discuss an initiative involving the beef information exchange system.

“The system will help brand B.C. beef in the marketplace with the ultimate goal of getting more money to the producers,” said Altwasser. “Whether you are a member of NOLA or not, please feel welcome to attend this very informative and noteworthy session.”
