Cherryville Days is ready to soar.

The 54th annual event, June 3 and 4, will be Wingin’ It with festivities taking flight all weekend long.

“We’re gonna wing it,” said chairperson Karyn Kelly Hyciek, who brought the attitude everyone needed after it looked like the event might not take off.

To “wing it” is a theatrical expression referring to impromptu performances given by actors who hurriedly learn their lines while waiting in the wings. That’s how this year’s committee has pulled together Cherryville Days, and what a grand show it is promising to be.

“Cherryville Days is an important annual fundraiser for the Cherryville Community Club, which manages and maintains Cherryville’s community facilities, Cherryville Community Hall and Hanson Park,” said Debbee Werner, committee member, adding that all is undertaken by community volunteers.

The weekend festivities take flight Saturday when the Cherryville Days 2017 Parade leaves the Cherryville Emporium at noon; after a pancake breakfast at the Cherryville Community Hall from 8 to 10 a.m.

Hanson Park will be flying all weekend with a Show &Shine, Pet Show, Talent Show, a variety of food and market vendors, live music, and beer garden; and fun activities including Kiki the Eco Elf and other entertainment and games.

This year, Cherryville Days is pleased to welcome Valhalla Helicopters. For an aerial view of Cherryville, Valhalla Helicopters will be offering 10 minute rides for a reasonable fee, from the property next door to the Cherryville Community Hall starting at 11 a.m. on both days.

Also featured this year is a Wing Off Barbecue Cooking Competition. Barbecuing on site, contestants will commence cooking after the famous Outhouse Races on Saturday (which start at 2 p.m.), which are back, as always, by popular demand.

On Saturday night, the Cherryville Days Dance will be held at Cherryville Community Hall, featuring live music by The Goods. Tickets are available in Cherryville at Frank’s General Store and Cherryville Emporium, and in Lumby at Jitter Beans Coffee House.

Sunday features the Cherryville Days Horseshoes Tournament, where horseshoes will start flying at 10 a.m.

Cherryville Days festivities conclude at 4:30 p.m. with a Community Dinner.

“So mark your calendar for June 3 and 4 and get ready to wing it, Cherryville-style,” said Werner.
