The RCMP and a Vernon supermarket are teaming up to collect food and essentials for the Salvation Army Food Bank.

A Cram The Cruiser event takes place Saturday at the south entrance near the flagpole at Real Canadian Superstore from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We’re helping our community,” said Stephanie Marie of Loblaws, parent company of the Superstore.

The RCMP van will be set up at the entrance and people are encouraged to stop by during the two hours and drop off non-perishable food items, and everyday essentials like tooth brushes, toothpaste and shampoo, for the Salvation Army Food Bank.

“We’re also going to try and do coffee and pastry by donation,” said Marie.

Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP and the City of Vernon Safe Community Unit have partnered up to help with the event.

Popular RCMP mascot Safety Bear will also be on hand.

Saturday’s event is part of an Interior-wide initiative between Loblaws and the RCMP. Cram The Cruiser events are also being held in Kelowna, Penticton and Prince George.

“We hope everyone comes out and shows their support for people in need,” said Marie.
