The City of Vernon is taking steps to improve mental health among its employees.

The city has partnered with the Canadian Mental Health Association to promote mental health and wellness for staff.

“It is about ensuring that they have the tools, tactics and resources to truly thrive,” said Raeleen Manjak, the city’s director of human resources.

Over the next number of months, the city will provide a number of interactive sessions for employees that explore anxiety, stress, burnout, grief and depression.

“One of the most important places to talk about mental health is the workplace,” said Julia Payson, CMHA Vernon executive director.

“Prevention and early intervention can save employers thousands of dollars per employee, so this type of innovative program makes sense for everyone involved.”
