Kirsten Regel and Kristine Lidstone from VantageOne Credit Union will be at the Nov. 2 event sharing the book they authored about the Adventures of Cashman and Super Saver.

November is Financial Literacy Month and a number of community partners have planned a family-friendly launch event at the Vernon branch of the Okanagan Regional Library on Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

You can have your questions answered by community experts from Fenske Financial Coaching and Launch Okanagan; hear about VantageOne Credit Union’s Adventures of Cashman and Supersaver; find out what resources exist at the library and how the Vernon School District is promoting financial literacy in the curriculum. NexusBC Community Resource Centre will highlight related upcoming workshops and other topics of interest for adults in the community.

And to top it off, Sniper from the Vernon Vipers will be there from about 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. to add to the morning. There are prizes to be won and snacks, activities, and piggy banks for the little ones.

The group has also designed a short online survey to get feedback from the community about how they can be better supported in their financial literacy goals. It will be available at the event.

“We are excited to start raising awareness in the community about this very important aspect of our lives and how being better informed and supported can contribute to our financial well-being,” says Wendy Aasen, outreach coordinator for the Literacy Society.

Branded by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, this year’s Financial Literacy Month’s campaign theme is: Money on your Mind. Talk about it. The campaign is aimed at destigmatizing conversations about money by encouraging Canadians to share their financial experiences and ask questions.
