Moved by personal experiences involving cancer and inspired by a Lavington family, a Vernon company is lending a hand with a charity run.
Vernon Budget Car and Truck Rental has donated a lime green Ford Fiesta to the Gosselin-Preston family run from Lavington to Vancouver which begins this morning at 8:45 a.m. at Lavington’s Centennial Park.
The car will serve as a pace vehicle for the six kids – Michael Preston, Faren Gosselin, Desiree Gosselin, Haylee Gosselin, Hailey Preston and Ty Preston – and two parents – Reg Gosselin and Natalie Preston – who hope to arrive in Vancouver on July 14.
“We’ve had, in our own personal lives, quite a few cancer survivors and people who died from cancer,” said Clint Croteau, Budget manager. “It’s very important to us that we’re able to support this family.”
Inspired by the late Terry Fox, the blended family hopes to run 48 kilometres a day, with each child running four Ks twice a day.
The kids are aged six to 15.
The family will stop at towns along the way to Stanley Park in Vancouver to bolster their fundraising goal of $20,000.
“We really appreciate the safety aspect of a car with an amber light on as the kids are running,” said Reg Gosselin.
The family picked up the car from Budget on Wednesday.
