Nine downtown Vernon restaurants served up a record, sell-out event Saturday.

The seventh annual Chili Cook-Off, part of Vernon Winter Carnival, sold out and brought a record 400 passport holders through the restaurants and café’s serving up their finest chili.

“Each year, the Chili Cook-Off is getting more and more community support” said Hailey Rilkoff, events and promotions co-ordinator for the Downtown Vernon Association.

This year’s People’s Choice for best chili went to EATology’s cheddar ale with the Judge’s Choice for best chili going to the Kal Sports Bar and Grill’s Creole chili. Station BBQ Smokehouse was this year’s winner of the Chili Spirit Award for their staff costumes, venue décor and overall ambiance.

All proceeds from Chili Cook Off passport sales  (which were $2 each) will be donated to the Community Kitchens program run by the Food Action Society of the North Okanagan.
