Costume bash boosts Habitat

The Superhero Party Extravaganza takes place Feb. 13 at the Vernon Recreation Complex

The Habitat Champs are leaping into action to help ensure local residents can access housing.

The Superhero Party Extravaganza takes place Feb. 13 at the Vernon Recreation Complex and funds raised will help Habitat for Humanity purchase land for a housing project.

“Imagine entering in costume and partaking in a Kryptonite toss trying to win extra tickets for either something from Crannog Ale or a great wine,” said Beth Marks, one of the organizers.

“And just for showing up, you get to experience Marvel’s blockbuster, The Avengers, played on the Big Screen Fun’s giant screen.”

The event will also include a concession operated by the Italian Kitchen Pizzaria and games including stacking the bat signal tower, the X-ray vision game and the arch villain shoot-out.

The event gets started just after 6 p.m. when the doors open.

Tickets are available at the Vernon Winter Carnival office or at the door.

“The Champs heartily recommend buying tickets early to avoid disappointment,” said Marks.

“This debut event is for adults only so think Valentine play date.”

Marks is hoping the event will give Habitat for Humanity a major boost.

“We’re within range of being able to buy a suitable lot for a build,” she said.

“This event will help put us over the top and be over the top fun. Come on out, enjoy the fun and help hard-working families get into their home.”
