A stop at a Vernon car dealership can help a couple of organizations.

Vernon Kia hosts its fifth annual Drive Change Day on Thursday, Aug. 21.

“We’re doing this to raise awareness, money and food for the Upper Room Mission and the Salvation Army Food Bank,” said Vernon Kia general manager Curt Jensen.

The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Local firefighters and other emergency personnel will be on hand cooking hot dogs and hamburgers, which will be available for purchase by donation (along with beverages such as bottled water and pop).

A drive-thru system will be established so that people can drop off non-perishable food items which will be donated to the Upper Room Mission and Salvation Army Food Bank.

“This is the fifth year Kia dealers have been involved with Drive Change and it’s important for us to give back by driving change in our local community,” said Jensen.

“We hope to stock the shelves at the food banks before Christmas.”

Firefighters will also be demonstrating how to correctly install a child seat in a vehicle at the event.
