Watch for Vernon Winter Carnival events in downtown Vernon.

Downtown Vernon is all set to celebrate the 57th annual Vernon Winter Carnival.

Monday’s Restaurant Olympics will see seven teams competing in fun challenges and an obstacle course from 2 to 4 p.m. at Civic Plaza.

“The public is encouraged to come watch and cast their votes for best team costume to enter to win restaurant gift certificates,” Haley Rilkoff, events and promotions co-ordinator.

“Marten Brewing Company will be onsite sampling their craft beer and the Salvation Army will be holding a barbecue by donation.”

On Thursday, the DVA’s sold-out UnWined Downtown will host 250 guests.

“It is an exclusive ladies’ night event showcasing downtown boutiques and businesses,” said Rilkoff. “Guests will be treated to a night of food and wine sampling, late night shopping with special discounts, product demos, and door prizes.”

Then on Saturday, the eighth annual Chili Cook-Off takes place from noon to 3 p.m. Competing for the title of best chili in 2017 are Domenic’s Café & Bistro, EATology, Grillers Meats, the Kal Sports Bar, Marten Brew Pub, the Naked Pig, Midtown Bistro, Station BBQ and the Sprouted Fig.

All of Vernon is invited to be a judge for the People’s Choice Best Chili and Chili Spirit awards, while a group of guest judges will decide the Judges’ Choice Best Chili award.

Passports for the Chili Cook Off are $5 each, and can be purchased at the DVA or Vernon Winter Carnival offices. Fifty per cent of proceeds from passport sales will be donated to the Upper Room Mission. For more information, call the DVA at 250-542-5851 or visit www.downtownvernon.com.
