The Downtown Vernon Christmas Light Up is Saturday.

A Christmas tradition will shine.

The Downtown Vernon Christmas Light Up, sponsored by MNP, runs Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m.

“The holiday entertainment kicks off at 3 p.m. with the official Light Up ceremony at 5:15 p.m. at the MNP Main Stage,” said Hailey Rilkoff, with the Downtown Vernon Association.

“Fantastic entertainers, including the C-Tones Choir, Argyll Dance and Tim Osborne, will be performing throughout the night. There will also be choirs carolling throughout the event for you to stop and enjoy.”

You’ll also be able to taste free samples in the Hot Chocolate Challenge with local businesses like El Gusto Latino Market, Bean Scene Coffee House and Cracked Pot Coffee participating.

“Free photos with Santa are always the highlight of the evening,” said Rilkoff.

“This year, Santa is being hosted by the UPS Store. Photos with Santa will take place from 3 to 7 p.m., with a short break for Santa to light the Christmas tree. Kids can also write their Christmas wishes to Santa Claus and say hello to the reindeer at the Letter To Santa station hosted by Telus.”

And there will be numerous activities, either free or by donation supporting local charities.

Nature’s Fare Markets present ornament decorating, and there will be a bonfire and marshmallow roast with Santas Anonymous and Vernon Fire and Rescue Services.

“Stop by the craft stations hosted by the Salvation Army and the Vernon Public Art Gallery or the activity centre at Vernon Teach and Learn,” said Rilkoff.

In order to prepare for the event Saturday, 30th Avenue, between 30th and 33rd streets, will be closed starting at noon that day.

“Downtown Vernon has arranged for free parking and transit to and from downtown for Saturday to help make the event accessible to all,” said Rilkoff.
