Planning is well underway for one of Vernon’s premier social events.
Kalamalka Rotary Club members have begun their annual canvass for donations for the Dream Auction Nov. 19 at the Best Western Vernon Lodge.
“Our members are canvassing businesses, professionals and individuals throughout Greater Vernon,” said Beth Marks, club president.
“Our goal is to beat last year’s record donations.”
New businesses wishing to donate may contact Bob Sattler, at 250-309-3822 or any Kalamalka Rotarian for pickup of goods or services.
“Public support has always been excellent,” said Sattler, who is auction chairperson.
“We expect this year to be no exception.”
The Dream Auction raises money each year for a variety of projects.
The club’s major project just completed was a $150,000 commitment to Vernon Jubilee Hospital for the women and children services department.
Other recent donations include the Vernon Science Centre, the Upper Room Mission, Vernon Fire Rescue, the North Okanagan Gleaners Society and the Teen Junction literacy project.
In all, Dream Auction revenues supported over 30 projects in the past year.
The club was also active internationally with donations to the Rotary Foundation’s polio eradication project.
Club members also sent an international exchange student overseas and hosted a student in Vernon.
Community organizations still have time to apply in writing for donations through the club’s web site at www.clubrunner.ca/Kalamalka.
The application is on the right hand menu bar under Downloads.
Tickets to this year’s Dream Auction will be on sale by early October.
“Ticket revenues cover all expenses of the Dream auction so 100 per cent of the auction income may be returned to worthwhile projects,” said Marks.
Over $2.2 million has been raised in the community and returned to projects since Dream Auction began in 1985.
