Enderby needs a hand hosting Hansen

Morning Star Staff

Community involvement is being sought for Rick Hansen’s 25th anniversary relay stop in Enderby.

The city  and the Enderby Chamber of Commerce are seeking volunteers to help organize the event, which will occur on or around April 3, 2012.

“Volunteers will be asked to help plan and implement the community celebration,” said Tate Bengston, with the chamber.

“It will be an important opportunity to recognize Rick Hansen’s achievements and continue Enderby’s dedication to his vision.”

The 25th anniversary relay will recreate the Canadian portion of the original Man in Motion Tour.

Seven thousand participants from across Canada will participate in a 12,000-kilometre relay, which begins Aug. 24, 2011 in Newfoundland and concludes May 22, 2012 in Vancouver.

“The relay will bring together volunteers who seek to create a more accessible and inclusive world,” said Bengston.

“Volunteers working on the committee will unite the community to embrace positive change and improve the lives of others.”

To volunteer, contact the Enderby Chamber of Commerce at 250-838-6727.
