Greater Vernon is preparing to celebrate the environment.
Events will be held during Rivers Day Sunday including a community celebration at Kin Beach.
“From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be activities for kids, spoken word by Cameron Welch with local artist Windmills, performances by local youth from the Rarearth Jazz and Blues Our Kids Have Talent competition, community groups, information about waterways, art and paddling on Okanagan Lake,” said Jessica Rayner, with the City of Vernon.
Other events include a Coldstream Creek clean-up with the Society for the Protection of Kalamalka Lake (meet at Creekside Park at 10 a.m.), and an interpretive walk hosted by the Allan Brooks Nature Centre in the BX wetland at North Vernon Park (Pre-register by calling 250-260-4227, then meet at 2 p.m.).
Rivers Day is held annually on the last Sunday in September and now includes community events all around the world.
“This annual celebration focuses on all water from including lakes, ponds and wetlands to creeks, streams, wetlands and everything in between,” said Anna Page, with the Regional District of North Okanagan.
