The first annual Falkland Museum and Heritage Park Harvest Festival turned out to be a toe-tapping success attended by folks from far and wide.
“Despite a chilly start to the day on Sunday, the weather co-operated, and with the appearance of the sun, came the appearance of the crowds to enjoy the last Sunday of summer,” said Diana Ball, hostess with the Falkland Museum and Heritage Park.
Activities and entertainment included Patrick Peebles with his rich voice and guitar performing many wonderful pieces by Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver and others.
The Chilly Creakers kept the afternoon hopping with their wonderful upbeat country tunes with their band playing such instruments as banjo, wash board, washtub bass, accordion and guitar and amazing vocals.
Delicious beef on a bun, homemade pies and corn on the cob kept the hunger at bay for the busy attendees.
Thanks to the community’s support, the event also raised $1,600.
“The annual fundraiser for the museum provides a major portion of the funding needed to keep the site operating,” said Ball.
The museum and heritage park, located on Highway 97 in Falkland, features two acres of buildings and exhibits as well as an archive museum and a plethora of information about the history of the area.
The museum is open from mid May to mid September everyday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“See you next year,” said Ball.
