Vernon is ready to kick Canada Day off with a bang.

The Celebrate Canada Day fireworks finale gets underway Sunday at the DND grounds at 10:15 p.m.

The event, presented by the City of Vernon and Kal Tire, includes a free park and ride with B.C. Transit from 8:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. Park at the Performing Arts Centre and catch a ride at the turnaround in front of the Boys and Girls Club up to the DND grounds and back.

The Celebrate Canada Day event has gained some support from Sutton Group Lakefront Realty through the purchase of 180 new fireworks mortars, (tubes from which firework shells are launched).

“The mortars, ranging in size from 50 mm to 150 mm, will be used for years to come by the City of Vernon and surrounding fire departments on various fireworks displays,” said Terry Schmauder, Celebrate Canada Day Fireworks committee chair.

“Sincere thanks go out to the realtors of Sutton Group Lakefront Realty for their generous community-minded support.”

No pets will be permitted on the DND grounds during the event. Pet owners are reminded to keep their animals safe and secure at home.

The event is subject to a maximum wind speed of 40km/hr.
