Flag bearers take part in ceremony

Sonja Gaudet and Josh Dueck will attend the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame gala and induction ceremony Friday.

Two North Okanagan residents will take part in the 2014 Celebration of Excellence hosted by the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic committees in Calgary.

Wheelchair curler Sonja Gaudet and sit-skier Josh Dueck, who carried the Canadian flag at the Sochi Paralympics, will attend the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame gala and induction ceremony Friday.

“The 2014 Celebration of Excellence has a star-studded lineup that will have guests and fans screaming for more,” said Marcel Aubut, Canadian Olympic Committee president.

Throughout the 2014 Celebration of Excellence, more than 200 Olympians, Paralympians and coaches will make public appearances starting today at Ottawa schools and hospitals as well as the House of Commons.

The Heroes Tour, consisting of school and hospital visits, will be making its way through Calgary, Banff, Red Deer and Edmonton Thursday; and the post-Sochi Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame gala and parade of champions will take place in Calgary Friday.

Proceeds from the gala will go to the Canadian Olympic Foundation as well as a legacy coaching program in Calgary.
