Food drive goes door to door

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and Save On Foods collecting donations for Salvation Army Food Bank

North Okanagan residents are being asked to help stock shelves at local food banks.

On Saturday, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and Save On Foods are sponsoring a food drive for the Armstrong, Lumby and Vernon food banks.

“We are very excited about the potential for additional help as children head back to school,” said David MacBain, with the Salvation Army food bank in Vernon.

“Thirty one of those served at the Vernon food bank are children.”

The event is part of the provincewide B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Volunteers will be out picking up donations and residents are asked to have their bag of non-perishable food items on the doorstep by 9:30 a.m.

“We thank the organizers and sponsors of this drive and wish them great success,” said MacBain.
