Golfers swing up ALS support

The Golfathon for ALS gets underway Tuesday at Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club

A couple of local pro golfers are swinging in their support for ALS from sunrise to sundown.

The Golfathon for ALS gets underway Tuesday and will see Spallumcheen’s head professional Myles Johnson and associate pro Sieg Schreve on the course all day.

“I do it because it is a great cause that affects far more people then I realized,” said Johnson, who is taking part in his fourth golfathon. “When the PGA of B.C. partnered with the ALS society it was an easy decision for me to do my small part to help out. The support from the members and guests at Spallumcheen has been amazing.”

ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) is a progressive neuromuscular disease in which nerve cells die and leave voluntary muscles paralyzed.

Every day two or three Canadians die of the disease.

June is ALS Awareness Month in B.C.

“It is because of your support, ALS BC can provide the people living with ALS the support they need to have the best quality of life possible living with ALS,” said Wendy Toyer, executive director. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your help provides hope to those affected by ALS in B.C.”
