Junior Chamber International recently introduced Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon to community organizations in the North Okanagan.

“The opportunity to highlight the good work done by these organizations with her honour present allowed us to showcase the Vernon we all know and appreciate,” said Daniel Proulx, JCI Vernon president.

Out of the 50 groups in attendance, particular mention was made of the 2013 volunteer hours contributed by Special Olympics Vernon with 11,500 hours, North Okanagan Hospice with 15,310 hours, the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary with 19,819 hours, Schubert Centre with 24,000 hours and more than 30,000 volunteer hours by the Upper Room Mission.

“The organizations represented in the room equaled 214,680 volunteer hours. That’s a very impressive number considering the size of Vernon,” said Proulx.
