High-flying event helps food banks

Flying for Hunger takes to the skies Saturday in support of food banks in Armstrong and Vernon

Support for those in need is reaching new heights.

The second annual Flying for Hunger takes to the skies Saturday and the model airplane show will support the food banks in Armstrong and Vernon.

“It’s a real family fun day,” said David MacBain, with the Vernon food bank.

The event is being hosted by the Vernon Radio Control Aeromodelers Society and the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada.

A variety of model airplanes will be on display and performing.

“Bring a lawn chair and come see the planes in action,” said MacBain.

Valley First Credit Union will be on site with a barbecue by donation.

MacBain is impressed with the model airplane clubs organizing the event.

“These are people that take this activity very seriously and they have a lot of fun,” he said.

Admission is a cash or food donation.

Flying for Hunger runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28 at L&A Cross Road, off Highway 97A, in Spallumcheen. For information, call 250-546-3465.
