Houses build hope for women

This spring, the Village Green Centre will launch its Houses for Hope campaign.

The goal is to raise money and awareness for the Vernon Women’s Transition House Society.

Ten, four-foot-by-four-foot-by-five-foot playhouses have been constructed by Vernon-based Creative Connectors.

“The undecorated playhouses will each be pre-sold to campaign sponsors for $500 each, with all net proceeds going directly to the transition house,” said Darren Robinson, marketing manager.

“Each sponsor will then be given three weeks to decorate, paint and/or furnish the playhouses to their liking before they are returned to Village Green Centre where they will be on display for public viewing from April 10 to 26.”

Shoppers will be given the opportunity to bid on their favourite playhouse via the 16-day silent auction. There will also be a people’s choice award of $150 in Village Green Centre gift cards for the sponsor with the most popular finished playhouse.

The Vernon Women’s Transition House Society provides safety, shelter, counselling, and outreach for women and children fleeing abuse.
