It’s been a hot summer so far this year, leading to heat advisories and raising the risk of wildfires.
Temperatures are expected to remain 30 degrees Celsius and above for the rest of the week in Vernon.
A 70 per cent chance of showers is in the forecast tonight, with the risk of a thunderstorm, according to Environment Canada.
Tuesday could see showers, with a 40 per cent chance.
The rest of the week is looking like all sun, starting at 30 Wednesday, 31 Thursday, 32 Friday (and smoky), 33 Saturday and 34 Sunday.
“It’s hot everywhere,” said Ken Dosanjh, Environment Canada meteorologist.
Temperatures are about four to seven degrees above the seasonal normal for this time of year, according to Dosanjh.
While the weekend was hot, it wasn’t quite record-breaking.
Saturday reached 34.9, with the record being 36.2 in 2015.
The July 9 record of 36.7 (also set in 2015) was almost broke Sunday as the mercury rose to 35.8.
“They were close,” said Dosanjh.
Vernon saw some significant wind Sunday, due to what Dosanjh calls an outblow boundary or gust in front of a thunderstorm.
“It jumped up to about 58 kilometres an hour.”
Although thunderstorms in Vernon didn’t materialize, they hit a number of areas across the B.C. Interior.
The thunderstorm risk is higher tonight.
