“The Japanese community has used the hospital in one way or another and the hospital is an important part of our, or anyone’s, lives,” said Irene Oizumi, member of the Vernon Japanese Women’s Auxiliary. “This is a way to give back to the Vernon community for all of the support they have given us.”

The Vernon Japanese Women’s Auxiliary formed in the late 1930’s, shortly after the Vernon Japanese Hall on Bella Vista Road was built. Their mission is to keep Japanese culture alive and for Japanese women to feel a sense of community. They hold many public functions to raise funds, including their bazaars and festivals.

“Thank you to the Vernon Japanese Women’s Auxiliary for their thoughtful donation to Light A Bulb,” said Lisa Westermark, Executive Director, Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation. “We appreciate this kind and joyful support each year and all these wonderful women do for the community.”

Te 31st annual Light A Bulb Campaign is ongoing in Vernon. Each $35 tax deductible gift will light one bulb on the tree of lights; $500 will light an entire string. Every gift, great or small, brings us closer to raising $275,000 for critical equipment at VJH. As of Dec. 14, there is still $75,000 left to raise.

Those interested in donating, can do so online www.vjhfoundation.org, by phone 250-558-1362, or by mail to Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation, 2101 – 32nd Street Vernon BC V1T 5L2.
