A love of song has local Filipinos raising funds in support and thanks to their community.
The Club Filipino of Okanagan-Shuswap is hosting a karaoke night fundraiser Nov. 22 from 5 to 10 p.m. at St. James School in Vernon.
“Our intention for this fundraising event is to show our appreciation and gratitude to everyone who supported us last year during the bake sale for Typhoon Haiyan,” said Maylene Ramis, fundraising chairperson with the club.
Due to the great support received from the community, Club Filipino of Okanagan-Shuswap was able to contribute to rebuilding lives and homes in Tacloban City, Philippines.
“Proceeds from this event will go back to the community through our Christmas project where we give a Christmas hamper to deserving and less fortunate families and also through our Feed the Homeless program early next year,” said Ramis.
Tickets to the event are $15 each and can be purchased by contacting Maylene 250-307-6721 or Henrietta 250-550-5248.
“Filipinos love to sing and karaoke is one of the ways we entertain during birthday parties or get-togethers,” said Ramis. “We would love to share this love for music and singing to our community and we are hoping that people will join us for this event.”
There will be door prizes, freebies, concessions and a photo booth at the family-friendly event.
“Make it a date night, ladies’ night, guys’ night or a family night out,” said Ramis.
