Lavington market seeks vendors

Plans are for the North Okanagan’s only Sunday farmer’s market at Jeffers Park

Creating a farmers’ market in Lavington is Iftkhar Ahmed’s way of giving back to his community.

Ahmed hopes to start the North Okanagan’s only Sunday farmer’s market at Jeffers Park – beside the Lavington fire hall – in early-to-mid-June.

“I just want to do something to help the community,” said Ahmed.

“I think there are quite a few people from Lavington, Whitevale, Coldstream and Vernon that would take part.”

The market would likely run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It will feature three vendor categories: performing artists, locally made crafts and, of course, fruits, vegetables and snacks.

“A vendor could sell meat as long as they have the certifications,” said Ahmed, who is now looking for vendors for the proposed Lavington market.

There are big and small spots available at the Jeffers Park location.

He is hoping to have 30 to 40 vendors fill the smaller spots, and 10 to 20 vendors take up the bigger spots.

“My rates will be very reasonable,” said Ahmed.

“My only goal is to break even.”

The planned Lavington Farmers’ Market would likely run until September.
