Students and volunteers banded together in Lumby April 22 to amass a pile of garbage from the village streets.

“Although it was a soggy day, our Earth Day Celebration and Community Clean-Up was a great success,” said Dawn Frizzell, Whitevalley Community Resource Centre volunteer co-ordinator.

Through the concerted efforts of J.W. Inglis Elementary, Charles Bloom Secondary, Crossroads and community volunteers, the village streets were cleaned up. Ida’s Bakery even baked up some treats for those involved.

Although Earth Day may be over, efforts to keep the community clean are continuing and everyone is invited to take part.

“If you weren’t able to make it out to help on Earth Day, all you have to do is make a commitment to not litter and pick up some garbage as you are out for your daily or weekly walks,” said Frizzell.

“We live in a beautiful community, let’s all work together to keep it that way.”
