Retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Anthony Farina has released his memoir, Angels in Sadr City: The Final Fight for Baghdad.

The Indiana native recently married Caralyn Farina (nee McCluskey) of Lumby and is currently touring the U.S. promoting his book and assisting other combat veterans by teaching them writing techniques to cope with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Farina’s career consisted of 46 months of active duty deployments that included combat, rescue operations, show-of-force missions, and prisoner extractions.

Angels in Sadr City is his eye witness account and tribute to a group of soldiers who fought during the historic battle of Sadr City.

His story will be featured in National Geographic Channel’s Decade Series: The 2000s, Monday at 7 p.m.

The Farinas plan to seek full residency soon so they can make a permanent move to Lumby.

He will be involved in military functions locally including the Okanagan Military Tattoo and he also hopes to be able to help Canadian veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.
