Falkland will be a gathering place for Métis.
Métis Nation B.C. will hold a gathering for all Métis at the Falkland Stampede grounds Friday through Sunday.
“It’s a friendship gathering so people get to know who we are,” said event organizer Lottie Kozak. “We want to show there is a Métis community in this area.”
Kozak is expecting anywhere between 200 and 500 people for the weekend event, with attendees arriving Friday to camp at the grounds.
The event begins Saturday with a pancake breakfast at the stampede grounds, starting at 7 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
There will be a big potluck dinner at the Falkland Community Hall Saturday starting at 6 p.m.
In between there will be fiddling, jigging, bonfires, and games for the kids as the Métis celebrate their heritage.
The cost to attend is $10 but is only open to Métis and their families.
The admission covers camping at the stampede grounds.
