A little shake has helped a Vernon organization.
The third annual Shake on the Lake held in Coldstream on an August evening was a fantastic success.
More than 200 people attended the charity concert which raised more than $6,000 to be split between local Vernon-based charity Neighborhood Investment Group and Calgary’s own Community Kitchen Program.
“Inspiration and gratitude are two of the words that come to mind after being at this event,” said Neighbourhood Investment Group founder Michael Little.
The evening featured musicians Andrew Allen, Dan Oldfield and Cole Friesen of Vernon, and Cole Hruska and Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, who entertained the appreciative crowd well into the evening.
The musicians – Cole Hruska(Calgary), Andrew Allen (Los Angeles via Vernon), Dan Oldfield (Vernon) and Cole Friesen (Vernon), and Michael Bernard Fitzgerald (Calgary) – entertained the big appreciative crowd well into the evening.
Allen and Oldfield presented Little with a cheque for $3,044.
“It is the much-needed boost that we need to pay back some of the people that have helped us,” said Little, adding the Vernon Family Church will receive a portion of the funds as they provide the facility free of charge for Little to host monthly community dinners.
“My hopes are also that this is the beginning of the perpetual funding necessary for community dinners to continue to operate unencumbered in the Okanagan and Canada,” said Little.
