New nature park ready to sprout in city’s north end

Preparations are underway for a new nature park in Vernon.

The Allan Brooks Nature Centre Society will install interpretive signage along the BX Creek Trail this spring in the proposed 2.36-hectare park at Deleenheer Road and 20th Street, near Wal-Mart.

“The society is also developing resources for school classes and events to engage the public,” said William Adams, project co-ordinator.

Through the North Okanagan Regional District, wetland construction should begin in early April.

“This demonstration wetland will become a centre piece for interpretive programs that will facilitate public learning about this crucial Okanagan ecosystem,” said Adams.

“With assistance from our partners and volunteers, wetland construction will commence once the wetland design is completed and site conditions allow for excavation.”

Events will be held on Earth Day April 22, International Trails Day June 4 and Environment Week June 5 to 11.

“Everyone is welcome to attend.  Come celebrate nature with us,” said Adams.
