Vernon Women in Business accepting nominations for Women of the Year

The search is on for a woman who has achieved success in business, culture or the community.

Nominations are currently being collected until March 31 at 4 p.m. for the Vernon Women In Business Woman of the Year award.

“The annual celebration generates interest from not only Vernon but also the neighbouring communities of Armstrong, Enderby, Lumby and surrounding rural areas,” said Colleen Barker, event chairperson.

The criteria and process for nominating someone is available at and in brochures that is being distributed throughout the region.

The recipient of this year’s award will be announced during a gala at the Best Western Plus Vernon Lodge May 17.

“Our 25th annual Woman of the Year celebration is a very special community event which allows us to recognize a remarkable group of outstanding women,” said Barker.

The 2012 recipient will receive a custom-designed silver anniversary piece generously contributed by Gregory’s Fine Jewellery.

“We couldn’t succeed without the generosity of our business community and the media,” said Susan Curzon, sponsorship organizer.

“Best Western Plus Vernon Lodge has generously invited all past recipients or their representative to be their complimentary guests for the gala celebration.”

Shelli Clipperton, of Nor-Val Event Rentals, and Benita Frank, of B. Frank Marketing, will participate as platinum sponsors, providing decor and design for the gala event.

Brenda Hala Photography will provide portraits of each nominee.

“We welcome cash and in-kind contributions from the community in our effort to make this silver anniversary a special event for the community,” said Curzon.
