The North Okanagan Neurological Association is holding a community celebration.
The child development centre will hold a free community barbecue Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to celebrate reaching 50 per cent of the $1.6 million fundraising goal to expand therapy rooms.
“Bring your kids and appetite to 2802 34th St. for a fun afternoon with games, entertainment, hot chocolate and burgers,” said Helen Armstrong, executive director.
NONA is raising funds to build a new 9,800-square-foot facility directed towards children and youth with autism spectrum.
“Curious community members can view the progress of the clubhouse at the barbecue,” said Armstrong.
“Construction workers are framing the third floor, a space that will be leased out to a complimentary third-party service. This will offset the new building’s operating cost and help keep it in line with NONA’s goal to be a one-stop shop for families.”
Currently, NONA is selling 2,000 raffle tickets at $20 each, and they can be purchased during the barbecue.
The grand prize is a seven-night stay in the penthouse at Sparkling Hill Resort. This also includes 13 KurSpa treatments, daily breakfast, lunch and three-course dinner. Second prize is a full day winery tour and lunch for four with MJO tours and the third prize is a two-night stay and two-rounds of golf for two at Predator Ridge Resort.
“We are asking families and businesses in the North Okanagan to support this capital campaign which will meet the region’s needs for years to come,” said Ian Laidlaw, fundraising campaign chairperson.
“NONA serves more than 700 families each year, and everyone probably knows someone who has benefitted from NONA’s services. We hope the community will support us through donations as construction has started and every dollar counts.“

Raffle tickets can be purchased at NONA (2802 34th St. Monday to Friday. The last chance to purchase tickets is Monday and the raffle draw is Nov. 29.
