The City of Penticton didn’t let National Public Works Week pass without a day-long celebration.
More than 450 kids on Friday, May 26, got an inside look at some of the city’s most vital services at an open house event.
Local elementary schools and daycare centres got in on the fun from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., to get up and close with city trucks, RCMP cars, loaders and other heavy-duty equipment.
The event was held in the Penticton City Yards at 616 Okanagan Avenue.
Long lines of people can be seen waiting to have their turn at a free electric bucket ride, one of the many favourites on Friday for those in attendance.
The day also featured a free BBQ, demonstrations, interactive games and educational displays.
It was all in the name of recognizing National Public Works Week, which runs from May 21 to 27.
Friday’s event in Penticton was viewed by city staff as a resounding success, based on pre-registration numbers from local schools and apparent enthusiasm shown by students toward the displays.
