PHOTOS: Penticton’s Downtown Community Market opens for season

Large crowds in the city’s 200-block enjoy the return of 75 vendors, live music on a busy Saturday

The Downtown Community Market in Penticton is officially back for a new season.

It was a busy Saturday, May 20, in the Peach City’s downtown core, with 75 vendors set up in the 200-block next to the always-popular Farmers’ Market closer to city hall.

Large crowds could be seen checking out all the vendors and enjoying the live entertainment, courtesy of the Downtown Penticton Business Improvement Association, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Saturday also marked Day No. 2 of the weekend-long Penticton Bike Festival, which included a group of cyclists riding along the city’s lake-to-lake bike lane from the library to the aforementioned Farmers’ Market.

The Downtown Community Market, meanwhile, returned in style with a live cover band playing hits from The Eagles, Rolling Stones and Tom Petty in front of a packed Tickleberry’s ice cream shop.

From artisans and creators to makers of homemade goods and antiques, various vendors could be seen down Main Street, starting from around Nanaimo Square, through the 200-block and on Front Street.

Food vendors could be found on Backstreet Boulevard.

The market will run for the season until Sept. 9.
