A growing new sport is providing support for residents in need.
The Greater Vernon Pickleball Association recently hosted a charity tournament to raise funds for the Upper Room Mission.
Twenty-four players came together and collected $1,177 for the mission, which provides meals and other programs for local residents.
Pickleball is played on a badminton size court, using a net placed at tennis height. It’s is played using a paddle and a plastic ball with holes.
“It is played both outdoors, and indoors in northern climates such as Vernon,” said Nancy Agassiz, with the GVPA.
