Province hands over grants

Vernon will get $91,841 for grants-in-lieu of property taxes while $3,636 will go to Lumby

Two North Okanagan communities are receiving provincial funds.

Vernon will get $91,841 for grants-in-lieu of property taxes while $3,636 will go to Lumby.

Grants-in-lieu of property taxes reimburse communities for services such as sewer, roads and fire protection that benefit government sites.

According to the Municipal Aid Act, a grant-in-lieu is payable on  land owned by the provincial government such as courthouses,  provincial government office buildings, ambulance stations and  warehouses.
