Ranch rounds up families

School is almost out and O’Keefe Ranch is preparing to celebrate the beginning of summer.

The historic site in Spallumcheen will host Family Fun Day Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“There will be lots to see and do for the entire family,” said Alicia Kay, special events co-ordinator.

Ranch visitors can take in all the old favourites. Tour the O’Keefe mansion, the Greenhow Museum, the North Okanagan Model Railway or get some heritage candy from the general store.

One Family Fun Day highlight is scarecrow building.

“Kids can build their own scarecrow and take it home,” said Kay.

“There will also be an old-fashioned fishing hole (with prizes), a colouring contest, and mural painting where kids can put on their artsy hats and paint on the O’Keefe Ranch mural wall.”

There will be pony rides, a bouncy castle, North Okanagan Model Railway displays and it will be the amateur radio field day.

Ranch visitors will also have the opportunity to get their picture taken at the old fashioned photo parlor.

“Also, new this year will be the cow milking contest for everyone to try their hand at milking a cow,” said Kay.  “Don’t worry it is a pretend cow.”

Or try your luck at gold panning and bannock baking.

There will also be a Little Rascals Rodeo, giving children who may have never had an opportunity to try out some rodeo activities to participate.
