Canada’s cultural mosaic is at the heart of a giant celebration set for Vernon.

RespectFest will run at various venues and include 25 events from Sept. 18 to 24.

“It’s about celebrating diversity and multiculturalism,” said Annette Sharkey, with the Social Planning Council.

“It’s also an opportunity to learn more about our First Nations history which predates confederation.”

A number of events, including the Kikanee Festival and a history workshop will focus on local indigenous residents.

“This is an opportunity to reflect as well as celebrate,” said Sharkey.

“What can we learn from our past? How can we build on our strengths? How do we move forward?”

Other RespectFest events include the Raptor Fest, Art About Town, an outdoor art show and a multicultural celebration.

Besides the Social Planning Council, the other lead organizers are the Allan Brooks Nature Centre and the Downtown Vernon Association.
