Run raises funds for food

Second annual Telus Great Pumpkin Run and Walk raises $1,900 for Armstrong Food Bank, Brown Bag Lunch program and next year's event

It’s a perfect way to walk or run off Thanksgiving dinner.

The second annual Telus Great Pumpkin Run and Walk was held on Thanksgiving Monday morning in Armstrong, with 155 people participating.

The event raised $1,900 for the Armstrong Food Bank, the Brown Bag Lunch program and next year’s event.

“This event was attended by people from as far away as Calgary and Vancouver,” said event director Ron Neden.

In the five-km run, the first three female runners were Chantel Jeffrey with a time of 21 minutes 45 seconds, Megan Harms in 22:57 and Wendy Armstrong-Taylor in 23:50.

The first three men across the line were Ian McKechnie in 19:11, Michael Brown in 19:28 and John Wilson in 20:20.

These top runners were given hand-decorated chocolate medals created and donated by Chocoliro Fine Chocolates.

In finishing order, Deb Kruger, Randy Kruger and Korey Schentag were the first three in the five-km walk.  In the 2.5 km walk, the first three were McKenna Brown, Wynn Brown and Tristan McKenzie.

Complete results can be seen on the event’s Facebook’s page. Costume prizes were awarded to Linda Grey and Pat Ratcliffe and draw prizes were awarded to many people. Telus funded the draws for 50 technical fabric T-shirts. All other prizes were donated by the event’s local sponsors.
