Vernon-Monashee MLA Harwinder Sandhu met with some friendly and familiar faces at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital (VJH) to mark Healthcare Auxiliary Day.

The province has designated May 7 as a day to recognize the volunteers who invest thousands of hours and raise millions of dollars in B.C. each year for the hospitals in their communities.

Sandhu worked as a nurse down the hall from the VJH auxiliary gift shop before her election as MLA. She was in the Legislature on the 7th but stopped by Friday with a proclamation certificate — “a small token of my immense gratitude” — for volunteers Anne and Pat.

“I’d like to say thank you to all the volunteers for all you do to support our health-care community and our families,” she posted on Facebook.

Like the nurses at VJH, the auxiliary volunteers keep busy. They run the gift shop seven days a week, with events throughout the year including the Spring Fashion Show and Christmas Bazaar and bake sale.
