Local businesses and residents compete in creating a unique scarecrow display.

Scarecrows will soon dot more than the Armstrong-Spallumcheen rural landscape.

The 13th Annual Harvest Pumpkin Festival and the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring ‘Scarecrows on the Street’ where local businesses and residents compete in creating a unique scarecrow display.

And the public gets a chance to vote on who has the best scarecrow display.

Entry forms are available online at  www.aschamber.com or on Facebook; voting ballots and maps will be available at the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce or on the chamber website by Oct. 15.

Opportunities for the public to vote begin on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and end on Oct. 24 with the winner announced on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the fairgrounds.

“All businesses and residents are encouraged to participate,” said Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce  executive director Patti Noonan.

“The deadline to enter the competition is Thursday, Oct. 10 to ensure your location is on the map.”

Harvest Pumpkin Festival celebrates arts, culture and families and has grown from a one-day event to a festival spanning 14 days that features fun for everyone.

It includes farmers market, demonstrations, treats, entertainment, lawn tractor racing, pumpkin catapult, petting zoo, pumpkin carving, games, family dance and more.

This year the celebration will include a salute to the City of Armstrong’s 100th anniversary with “100 Pumpkins for 100 Years’ activity.
