The Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club hosted their second successful Teck Okanagan Regional Snow Camp of the season at Silver Star Nov. 23 to 25.

The Okanagan Region hosts two regional snow camps each season. This camp was geared towards younger athletes in the Learn to Train stage of development. It saw about 40 youthful skiers divided between 13 coaches. Participants also bunked hillside for the full ski-in-ski-out experience.

The camp kicked off Friday evening with a game of Capture the Flag in the village. Then, on Saturday morning, skiers worked on technique and enjoyed a rowdy game of British Bulldog. After lunch, the kids worked through an interactive session introducing race planning and visualization.

Athletes developed race plans based on a set course they had skied earlier that morning. Once back on snow, skiers dipped down to the pond to focus on skate technique. After mac n’ cheese and lasagna dinners, the group watched a big screen projection of the opening World Cup races.

Skiers strapped on skate skis on Sunday and ventured back down to the pond for a Ski Tournament. Four teams rotated through various stations: slalom, Norwegian handball, obstacle course and sprint relays. Post-tournament, skiers were treated to a ride on the Silver Queen lift as they took the long way back to the accommodations to eat lunch and head home.

Organizers wanted to say thank you to all the parents who prepared meals and kept order in the suites, to the coaches for leading the on-snow sessions, and to Pinnacles and Vance Creek for hosting the group.
