Local restaurants gets in the spirit and compete in obstacle courses in downtown Vernon

The Kalympians kicked up their game to claim the top spot in the Restaurant Olympics.

The Downtown Vernon Association event, part of Vernon Winter Carnival, saw six teams take on the challenge in Spirit Square Monday.

First place went to The Kal team (Kalympians), followed by EATology’s Dream Team in second and Marten Brewing’s Naked Brewsters in third.

Best team costume, as voted by attendees, went to Topping Expectations (Team Topping).

The timed obstacle relay saw team members complete obstacles such as a soccer ball dribble, hurdles and balance beam all while carrying a tray of full drinks. Then, one member from each team competed in a different minute-to-win-it style challenge.

Two teams were successful in completing the Skittles Separation Anxiety challenge and Marshmallow Pick-Up.

No teams were able to succeed in the comical Face the Cookie challenge which saw contestants attempting to move a cookie from their forehead into their mouths without the use of their hands. Equally challenging was the Stack Attack challenge where contestants had to stack 36 cups into a pyramid in under one minute.

The combined scores were tallied from the obstacle relay and challenges to determine the winner. Team registrations, a total of $150, are being donated to the Salvation Army.
