A Vernon family is putting the squeeze on leukemia through lemonade sales.
The Rakos children — Hayley, 11, Alyssa, 12, Matthew, eight, and Brenden, nine, have been selling lemonade in support of leukemia treatment and research at Vancouver Hospital.
“We are members of the Vernon BMX Club and every year, the club hosts a race called the Race for Life,” said mom Hollie Rakos. “All of our race fees from the race Tuesday, along with the donations that are collected, are given to the hospital.”
This year, Rakos’ children have been working hard to collect $1,000.
“They have currently raised $1,200 and would like to see how far above this amazing goal they can get,” she said.
“This Saturday will be their last day of lemonade sales and we would like to invite everyone out to support this very worthy cause. They will be at 2106 39th Ave. from noon to 5 p.m., rain or shine.”
You do not have to be a member of the BMX club to take part in Tuesday’s Race for Life.
“You can come out and try the track, have a ton of fun and your $10 race fee will be donated to the cause,” said Rakos.
