It’s time for Vernon residents to reunite with their sister city.

Planning continues for a tour to Modesto, Calif. to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the relationship between the two communities.

“The 16-day tour will likely surpass anything that has gone before,” said John Topping, organizer.

It’s expected about 50 people will take part in the trip, which will see participants leave Vernon on a Sun Fun coach May 7. They will visit Reno, Nevada before arriving in Modesto.

Once there, the group will spend three days sightseeing and be special guests at a civic reception hosted by the City of Modesto.

The trip also includes a day in Santa Barbara before boarding an Amtrak train for a six-hour coastal excursion to San Diego. Highlights will include the San Diego Zoo and the aircraft carrier USS Midway.

For the return journey, the group will take the Royal Caribbean cruise liner Jewel of the Seas on a six-night cruise to Vancouver with stops at Catalina Island, San Francisco and Seattle.

“The coach is filling up quickly and anyone interested in going or seeking more detailed information should call 250-545-1287,” said Topping.
