Final details are underway for the Larch Hills Pirate Loppet.
The cross-country ski event, which runs Friday, is a joint venture of the North Okanagan-Shuswap School District and the Larch Hills Ski Club, near Enderby.
About 400 students in Grades 3 to 7 will participate.
“We are now seeing schools bringing students up to the hill as part of the PE program,” said organizer Brian Smith.
To help out with this, not only does the ski club donate back most of the money raised to schools to help purchase class sets of skis, it also donates time for ski schools so students improve their cross-country skiing skills.
“Cross-country skiing is a lifetime sport. It promotes balance, coordination, strength and endurance,” said Smith.
District superintendent Glenn Borthistle will ski with the students Friday.
