The annual Downtown Vernon Association’s Sunshine Festival runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 30th Avenue Saturday.

Downtown Vernon is getting ready for its biggest event of the year.

The 22nd annual Sunshine Festival takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 30th Avenue, from 29th to 35th streets.

“It will fill 30th Avenue with vendors offering sidewalk shopping and dining, an exciting entertainment line-up on two stages, and tons of activities for the entire family to take part in,” said Hailey Rilkoff, with the Downtown Vernon Association.

Kids can bounce off the walls or get their face painted, cool off with ice cold drinks and frozen treats and dunk local celebrities in the dunk tank.

“Come celebrate the beginning of summer with us and all our downtown Vernon businesses,” said Rilkoff.

There will be dancing in the streets at the Valley First Main Stage, with performers including //AMISTAD//, Feet First and the JS Garcia Band. The Kalavida stage offers a variety of entertainment, including local dancers, soloists and musicians.

“We’re excited about the addition of some great activities like the climbing wall and adult obstacle course,” said Doortje Geelkerken, with the DVA.

Bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Valley First’s Feed the Valley campaign. Items will be collected at the Valley First booth.

To make the Sunshine Festival accessible to all, there will be free parking on all downtown streets, in city parking lots and in the parkade.

Public transit will also be free to and from downtown Vernon within city limits.

Sunshine Festival sponsors include Valley First, Sun FM, Kalavida Surf Shop, the Rock Garden, Fortis B.C., Nixon Wenger and Briteland.
